SAN DIEGO August 2025: Mayor Todd Gloria will approve or veto the new ADU regulations to limit the quantity to one original house, two ADUs, one bonus ADU, one JADU. ADUs ARE NOT AFFORDABLE HOUSING: $3,100, 441 SQ. FT. ADUs; unlimited ADUs in high fire zones with a one-way escape route and limited room for rescue vehicles has the potential for a disaster.

San Diego is the only California city to allow an unrestricted number of ADUs if the property is located up to one mile to a current or future transit area. One mile is unreasonable. The U.S. Dept. of Transportation standard to walk to transit is 0.5 miles. Can San Diego get bicycle ride share by Lyft? https://citibikenyc.com

Reddit: -When I live farther away from the train, I am tempted to take Ubers more because I dread the walk home after drinking. Gotta make sure you’re actually up for the walk no matter what, otherwise the money you save on rent will end up going towards cabs. How often will you be taking the train? If you need to take it very often, it will be an awful experience. Otherwise, if you WFH, the benefits are totally worth it. My walk to the train is just a few minutes less than yours would be, and it made me miserable for years, especially in the summers and winters. There's a bus line that can take me to the train, but 80% of the time I can walk the whole distance before a bus shows up. Nightlife activities are impossible without Uber. The saving graces are that my apartment is affordable, located in a nice neighborhood, and has an outdoor space. If you need to take the train 4-5 days a week, it's going to be ROUGH. Someone mentioned getting a lightweight scooter, which is probably a good idea if you really need this place. If you can work from home or work within the same neighborhood, you'll be just fine and should take the apartment.
