THE SAN DIEGO HOUSING SURVEY April 2025
19 new high-rise buildings, 5,000 apartments, 200 low-income units
In April 2025 I visited and/or called 19 newer hi-rise apartment buildings built using density bonus exemptions. I expected 10% or 500 of the units would be affordable, not a measly 4%, 200 units.
REAL NUMBERS: 4,891 total units, only 202 units were designated "affordable" units, a studio at $1,722. Only 10 affordable units were available for rent in April.
WANT TO LIVE WITH AIRBNB GUESTS NEXT DOOR? Many apartments get rented as Airbnbs and buildings include Airbnb hotels with no front desk, Airbnb guests get free access to gym, pool and work areas.
