Mayor Gloria,
Many bicycle lanes are too narrow to ride on safely in traffic. The poor condition of streets makes riding a bike hazardous without traffic.
This is not Chicago, NYC, Boston, L.A. and other cities where it's easier to ride the train/subway than to drive.
San Diego's public transportation system isn't everywhere and isn't available 24/7/365.
If a person takes a train or bus to the Old Town transit station, to attend an event at the Sports Arena on Midway, they will have a 0.9 mile walk through a so-so area to reach the arena..
The City Council members could take the trolley instead of driving to work, taking nine cars off the road. This would save the city $1.2M for parking fees (especially important during a fiscal shortage) and would reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It would set a good example. The trolley stops in front of city hall.
Cordially,
Toots Tells
